NCC (National Communications Commission) said that Taiwan has signed up over 1 million 4G service subscribers in less than six months since the country commenced 4G LTE (Long Term Evolution) networks in May, registering the fastest growth of 4G subscribers in the world, reported Commercial Times on December 3. Telecom operators providing 4G service include Chunghwa Telecom, Far Eastone Telecom, Taiwan Mobile, Asia Pacific Telecom, and Taiwan Star. NCC believes that by 2017, more users will be accessing the Internet through mobile devices than through desktop PCs. In related news, Central News Agency reported on December 3 that NCC has issued 4G license to the Foxconn-backed Ambit Microsystems, making it the sixth operator to launch 4G service in Taiwan. The operator has to activate 4G operation within six months.
